“I have really enjoyed the course and learned so much. I’ve felt a bit flat over the weekend at the thought of not having you to write for. I know I have much to think about and to practice, I intend to do that through the free writing exercises I missed on the course due to time constraints.
You have taught me so much and been always a great encourager, thank you. You’ve never made me feel like it’s too late or that I’m to old or not good enough. Instead, I have felt hopeful and excited. I want to keep writing and honour the Lord with what I believe he’s put in my heart.
Also, through November I’m going to finish the story I have begun. Not sure how it will turn out but if I don’t try I’ll never know. As St. Julie has said, ‘better mistakes than paralysis, it’s your choice’.” – Juliet, Cornwall

“I am not scared of failing any more and I need to give myself the chance to actually produce this ‘baby’ which has been gestating for far too long. I seem to work best to others’ deadlines and when I block time to achieve a given end.
Just wanted to let you know, because without your kind words this would still be way off in the future for me.  Thank you :)”

“I have been greatly stimulated by the Write for a Reason course to write freely, but also to tidy up my writing and avoid the many mistakes I was making. Janet gives lots of ideas, hints and assignments to work on. She has left me, at the end of the course, continuing to research, practice and keep improving my writing. Janet is an encourager. I am re-energized. Thank you.” – Marion (Liverpool)

“Wow! I learned so much. The distance learning format worked well for me and I just managed to fit the work in to my schedule. I really liked the balance of teaching and “having a go” in the course and it’s given me a pot of ideas which I can use. The seven teaching areas we covered have provided my own story writing with a much better skeleton which I can see will allow them to go further! It’s given me more confidence and excitement about my story writing. Thank you Janet.” – Mark (Lancashire)

I have found the Write for a Reason course to be both stimulating and helpful. This is not the first writing course I have done, so I was hoping it would give me something which my previous course did not. I wasn’t disappointed.”
As someone who has spent a lot of time studying and practising the writers’ craft over the last few years, I think this course has pushed me to give quality time focusing on some of the main elements of writing I needed to improve on. So, spending time on developing characters, plots, and especially ‘show not tell’ has been worthwhile and rewarding.
I have also found Janet’s comments helpful. As a writer, it is sometimes difficult to know whether you’re making any progress at all, so this feedback has been positive and encouraging, while also pointing out areas where I should still be aiming to improve.
The challenge now is to consider where to go with my writing from here. I have found inspiration for a number of story ideas during the course, suitable for my target audience, and have had the space to try out some of these ideas during the assignments, so I need to decide which of these ideas to develop in the future. At least I have more confidence to do so now.” – Martin (Bedfordshire)

I heard about the ‘Write for a Reason’ course from a friend and what a blessing this course has been. Helpful insights, clear direction, great encouragement, all within the structure of applying learnings through assignments and dreaded deadlines. This course has changed how I perceive writing in a Christian context. Janet’s patience, wisdom and passion are a gift we must greatly treasure. I find myself absorbing her insights into my writing, re-writes and planning. I cannot recommend the ‘Write for a Reason’ Course highly enough.” – Baden (Co. Wicklow, Ireland)

I have done a couple of creative writing courses in the past, but I found with “Write for a Reason,” I came away with a vast amount of information, from correctly planning and plotting my story, to profiling my characters. The course was very insightful, and Janet was so helpful and encouraging right through the course. I was also traveling at the time and it being an online course, I was able to plan it in to my schedule and not worry about missing classes. I also like the fact that it is coming from a Christian perspective and how Janet reminded us of the importance of what is being sown into the vulnerable minds of our young readers. I happily recommend this course to friends.” – Catrina (London)

Just wanted to say a big Thank You for your encouraging and constructive comments that you give following each assignment. I am learning so much. I am enjoying this course tremendously, it’s challenging and exciting in equal measure. What a great way to hone one’s skills!” – Heather (Dorset)

Thanks for your advice which is timely and very helpful. If the last week has taught me anything it is that there are no short cuts in writing (and last week was a good week!). I wrote the first book in a fortnight twelve years ago (almost to the day). Since then I have tried several rewrites but couldn’t get there. Your suggestion provides a great framework for a rewrite process that I will start this week.”
