Life isn’t always easy – it’s full of ups and downs. There are exhilarating mountain peak experiences, and tough times in the valleys. This came in force to me recently, as the day after we returned from a wonderful holiday in the mountains, our little cat was run over.

We need to be real in our writing. Lovely stories where only good things happen don’t reflect real life: we even have to watch our endings, to make sure they are not sugar-coated. Jesus said, “In this life you will have trouble, but do not be afraid, I have overcome the world.” We should aim to reflect both of these realities in our stories, so we can best help our readers.

What are you reading at the moment? Are there ups and downs? Do they resonate with you? Can you learn anything from this for your own writing? Let us know in the comments below!
