Dear Writers for a Reason,
We all need to get into good writing habits.
Getting into any good habit in life is an excellent thing. Once a habit becomes engrained, we do it automatically, without even thinking about it.
When we were children, we might forget to clean our teeth… now we do it without a second thought. Clean the car? That happens on Saturdays. Phone Mum? That’s Wednesdays at 7, before going shopping. Swimming? Thursday afternoons. Flopping onto the settee with coffee? Every night after dinner! 🙂
Obviously, not everything fits into a pattern like this. But if we want to get things done, we need to set it up as part of our routine.
So it’s time, my friends, if you don’t have a set time and place for your writing, to set one. The more automated it is, the less you have to think about whether you feel like it or not – you just do it!
It might take a while to get into the swing of it, but soon it will be so ingrained, that if a friend says, are you free to meet up on Monday evening, you will say, no, sorry, but I could do Tuesday instead?
I’m not saying you have to be rigid about this. But if it would help you get your story done, to pick a day, and a time, and stick to it.
Because if you have been called to write, someone’s waiting for your story.
Trust that helps,
Janet
P.S. We have a wonderful membership group – we meet every Monday. It’s a great way to get into a habit with your writing! Click here for more info.
