Christmas Observation

Dear Writers for a Reason,

Christmas is nearly upon us, so this week I’m going to give a very quick tip, as I’m sure you will be busy.

While at parties, church services, and soirées with friends, in queues, public transport, cafés and anywhere you have a chance to observe people… observe them!

Turn your antennae their way. Pick the most interesting person, and tune in to them. If you can, make a mental note of their physical appearance. Why do you think they are wearing that particular outfit? What does it say about them? If they’re talking, what is their attitude? Are they loud or quiet, shrinking into the background or making a statement?

Jot down some notes and use to embellish your characters!

Have a wonderful week,

Janet
