Here’s an idea for a quick writing exercise:
What did you learn from church on Sunday? Spend 10 minutes freewriting your thoughts (no one ever has to see it, so feel free to be honest!).
It doesn’t matter what you write about – something that struck you from the sermon, a chat you had with someone, a concern, a prayer… this exercise is for you, so pick whatever comes to mind first, and is important to you.

Why is this useful? After all, you will probably never use this in your actual story. (Yikes!)
But exercises like this help us remember to write from our heart. ‘Sterilised’ stories are dull. Our kids want real, and authentic.
So if we can get into the habit of writing real and raw, and what really matters, our stories will be much better.
Don’t you think? Let me know if you do this exercise, and if it helps you see your novel in a new way!
Every blessing,
Janet
