So, you have your characters sorted, and your plot… what else is essential?
Your narrative voice.
This can be a really tricky issue. Some people instinctively get this right, but others need to work quite hard on it.

Every story has a narrator – so who is narrating your story?
Are you writing in the first or third person? Is your viewpoint omniscient or is the narrator telling your story through the eyes of just one character?
How much does the narrator know?
These are important points to keep in mind as you write. And here’s the key: once you have picked your narrative voice, be consistent, all the way through your novel.
I trust that helps! This is an issue we spend time on in the Write for a Reason Academy, of course – if you’re thinking you’d like to join up (it’s lots of fun!), here’s the link to find out more.
May the Lord lead and guide you as your write,
Janet
P.S. I have a podcast episode out, which includes this thought. You can listen to the podcast here.
