Dear Writer Friends,
First of all, Happy New Year! May the Lord bless you this year as you look to him to help you with your writing.
This week I’d like you to consider how you could give your writing an extra boost this year.
Could you:
- Join a writers’ group?
- Go on a writing retreat?
- Do a writing course?
Groups
One thing about writing is that it can be lonely. Talking to other writers who get where you are coming from can help so much!
An in-person group is ideal, but if that’s not possible/practical, on online group can be hugely helpful.

If you’re thinking of joining a writers’ group, I’d love to welcome you into the Write for a Reason Membership Group. It’s called Unite, and it’s great fun!
Every week members get to ask me writing related questions about their stories, plus we have Buddy Groups, where writers critique each other’s work, and Quiet Writing sessions, where we come together to pray and share a verse of Scripture before we get to work (these are amazing times of blessing!).
And of course there are lots more options. If you don’t already belong to a group, take some time to check them out.
Retreats
These can be quite expensive, but excellent for learning, fellowship and to take time aside for nothing but you and your writing. Wherever you live in the world, why not research some possibilities?
Courses
There are all sorts of writing courses available for writers – we can all keep learning, whatever stage we’re at in our writing. The Write for a Reason Academy is a course I set up especially for Christians who write fiction for kids and teens. You can check it out here. It’s definitely cheaper than attending a retreat!
So, make sure this year you’re ready to go, and ready to take your writing to the next level. (Plus, of course, I hope these writing tips will be a help for you, too.)
See you again soon,
Janet
