For Christians who are writing stories for kids and teens!
- Freewrite your first draft before going back to edit. Make sure you get to the end of your story before going back to the beginning. You have no idea how much difference this will make to the flow of your story. Honestly.
- Show, don’t tell, as much as you possibly can. Take your readers right there to the action, so they can see what is taking place, rather than simply giving your readers the information.
- Do a writing course. As long as you pick a reputable one, you will learn so much more than you could possibly imagine. I’d love to see you in the Write for a Reason Academy!
- Join a writers’ group. We all have blind spots, and other writers can help us sort those out before we get too far. Online or in-person groups can be equally good – find one that suits you. We have a membership group – we meet every Monday, and would love to welcome you in!
- Read, read, read and keep reading – every day if possible, even if it’s only one chapter of a book. The best thing to read (apart from your Bible, of course!) is books that fit in with your own target audience. You will glean so much about grammar, sentence structure, characters and so, so much more.

Trust those are useful tips! 🙂
And I’ll be back with more next week.
Every blessing,
Janet
