Back to Basics 1 – Getting Your Characters Right

There are many elements we need to get right with our stories, but there are some basic essentials that will make or break our novels.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to look at some of these essentials.

So, getting your characters right is a basic essential. You must make sure your characters are engaging, and that your readers will be love to spend time with them.

Protagonists, antagonists, secondary characters… they all need thought. (Yes, that’s me in a tricorn hat at a museum in Portland, Dorset!)

Do you think you have got your characters right? If you’re not sure, why not join a writers’ group and get some feedback?

If you want to take your writing to the next level, you could also join the Write for a Reason Academy – we spend a whole module looking at characters – I guarantee you will love it!

Have fun this week with your characters!

Janet
