Your Worst Nightmare
Fear is a powerful force in our fallen world, although as we know, ‘perfect love drives out fear’ (1 John 4:18). Here are some common fears: being alone, being lost, the dark, evil forces, death of a parent, spiders and snakes, watching loved ones suffer, being trapped/locked up, feeling out of control, being chased and unable to run fast enough, unable to live up to expectations, humiliation, physical pain, an abuser, fear of having shameful acts uncovered . . .
Are You Free?
In some parts of the world you could be imprisoned for writing a Christian book for children – you would have to write in secret, and pray not to be discovered. Even if you finished your story, you would have to be careful where and when you shared it – you might have to write copies out by hand and pass them on at great risk, not only to yourself, but your recipients.
How Not To Confuse Your Readers When You Set Your Scenes (Confused? Read on!)
When setting a scene, we need to begin with a description of the general panorama before we get to the details. For example, if the scene we are describing is happening on a beach, we can begin with the sky, the cliffs behind, any background noises and smells, e.g. the salty smell of the sea, the cry of the seagulls.
