And on to today’s writing tip.
Last week I did an author visit to a local primary school – such a joy! Such precious lives, each one. We talked a bit about writing, and faith in stories, and I showed them my books, and other books we publish with Dernier… it was a great opportunity, although I have to say, I was really nervous!
We had some great questions afterwards, and here’s one I’d like to share with you.
“What do you want people to feel while they’re reading your book?”
Deep, huh? But a GREAT question!
Have a good think about your current work in progress. You probably know what you want them to learn from your book. This might be that God is good, that you can pray any time… you may want your readers to understand about forgiveness or hope…
But want do you want them to feel?
As we’re writing novels, we need lots of emotion, right?
This question is definitely worth thinking about.
Are we bringing suspense at the beginning, and joy at the end? Do we want our readers to laugh, or cry, or a bit of both?
Let’s make sure our novels are fun and entertaining as well as holding a serious message!
