As I mentioned last week, one by one I’m going to go over the quick tips I gave you back in the summer holidays (seems a long time ago now, doesn’t it?), in a bit more detail.

So the second tip was:

Write Rubbish If You Need To

That’s to begin with, of course! If you have an inkling of what you want to write, but are not sure exactly how to put it, don’t just sit there looking at the empty page, throw anything down as it comes to you, as fast as you can, just as it comes into your head.

It honestly doesn’t matter if it looks like a jumble of thoughts in the beginning.

Why write this rubbish, do I hear you ask? What’s the point of that?

Well, you can always improve a rough draft, but you can’t edit an empty document.

Merely by getting your thoughts down on paper/in a document, you have already made a huge step forward. Sounds crazy, but it makes sense, right? You’ve made a start… and starting is the only way to get into a flow state.

So writing rubbish isn’t as rubbish as it sounds!

And what’s more, in the midst of that jumble of thoughts, you might actually find some real gems. Some real, fresh thoughts, inspired by the Holy Spirit, that will add something amazing to your story.

So there you go – write the rubbish – then edit it later, and bit by bit your story will take shape. But be bold enough to fail at first (you don’t need to let anyone see your first draft!). 🙂
