Four Week Writing Course for Christian Writers of Youth Fiction
This course has now begun, but if you’d like to join us part of the way through, or would be interested if we run the course again, please contact me. 🙂
Would you like to meet up with fellow writers and pick up some tips from a publisher? If the answer is “yes”, this four week writing course might be just the thing for you!
What are the aims of the course?
This course is for fiction writers who want to:
- improve their writing skills
- be encouraged
- have fun
- network with other writers
The emphasis will be on writing novels for 8-12s and YA fiction from a Christian perspective, but writers from any faith or none would be very welcome to join us, as would fiction writers for adults or younger children (many skills are transferable, and we can learn from each other :-)).
Where will the course take place?
Orpington, on the Kent/London border, between junctions 3 and 4 of the M25. There are excellent rail links from London and the South East. Please note: there are steps up to the building.
When will the course take place?
We will meet on Friday evenings from 6th April, 8 – 10pm. If enough writers would like to carry on meeting after the course ends, we may start a monthly group, looking at a different topic each time, e.g. theme, target readers, dialogue, setting, building a fictional world. 🙂 We’ll see how it goes!
What will the course cover?
Week One: Characters (April 6th)
Week Two: The Beginning (April 13th)
Week Three: The Middle (April 20th)
Week Four: The End (April 27th)
There will be opportunity for you to bring you own work along, be beta readers for each other’s work (if you like the idea!), practice with some fun exercises, and take some homework back with you. :-)
How much will the course cost?
£40 for the 4 weeks, which will include refreshments. All proceeds will fund books for needy African schools.
Who will run the course?
Janet Wilson, from Write for a Reason, will host the meetings. Janet is a publisher of Christian fiction for young people with Dernier Publishing.
Are there any requirements?
A reasonable grasp of English would be useful, but other than that there are no academic requirements. What you will need is enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go. Do not think you are not good enough. Writers from every level are very welcome to join us, including complete beginners. The emphasis will be on encouragement. 🙂
