Whether we are writing from a Christian perspective or not, we need to make sure our stories are the best they can possibly be.

Here’s a thought about descriptions:

Before you launch into a long and flowing description, ask yourself: do you really need all that? You don’t always have to describe everything – you can leave something to your readers’ imaginations. If you dropped a hint of a description, would that do?

A Gucchi handbag, the latest trainers, a broken-down wall, a grey-haired woman dressed in black . . . would just a few words be enough for your readers to get the picture and fill in the rest?

dog and moon

Could you describe this moonlit scene in just a few words? Go on, give it a go! Please give your answers over on our facebook page! 🙂

Did you find that helpful? If so, please like, comment, and share with your friends! Every little helps 🙂

P.S. We are looking at using all five senses in our writing in the Membership Programme this month. If you’d like to join us, please click here. First month is free, so try it on me! Every month we go deep into one topic –  I’ll be honest, it’s only really for you if you write seriously and regularly – but it that’s you, we’d love to have you join us!
